Today I am going to talk about the little things I do at home whenever I suddenly feel overwhelmed and anxious. The following steps calm me down by providing me with temporary relief.
❀ The first thing I do when I am stressed is to take a long hot (read: boiling hot) shower. It is the only private time I have at home, so I use it to detach myself from the world.
❀ I turn on my humidifier and mix some of my favourite essential oils. I am still trying to find out the best blends but so far any light smell does the job.
❀ I always use light citrusy scented products as It just has this instant relaxing neurological effect on me that I cannot describe. Products can be essential oils, body balms, body mists etc.
❀ Wear baggy clothes.
❀ Put some cooling eye drops which not only cleanses, moisturises and refreshes my eyes but also my mind. The initial cooling feeling makes me feel more awake and less dizzy. I currently use Japanese ones as their cooling effect is really strong and they contain vitamins for dry and tired eyes.
❀ Do a very quick skincare routine using hydrating and calming products with a thin gel-like consistency such as sheet masks, toners and moisturisers and tons of mists.
❀ Depending on the weather, I either use a hot water bottle or a fan.
❀ I make myself a cup of hot tea. Right now, my favourite go-to are lemon and ginger or green tea.
❀ I listen to white noises, especially the sound of light rain. It is so therapeutic. I have a google chrome extension specifically for the rain one.
❀ I dim or turn off the light. If it’s during the daylight, I will just close the curtains.
