Today I turned 23 years old. Yeah, 90s baby :p. It is 4 am in the morning and I was finishing my revision for Advanced Mass Transfer exam this afternoon. My brain couldn’t take it anymore so I decided to lay down on my bed and try to sleep but instead, my mind ended up over thinking while listening to IU’s Twenty Three.
My first thought was “Woah am I really 23 now?” I really have a hard time believing that I am getting older day by day. I don’t know why but my mind is still convinced that I am 17 years old. My second thought was to ask myself what I really wish to achieve this year:
Aaaargh Fuck This!
We all know adulthood isn’t easy but with the right mindset, it can be approached quite smoothly. There are several things I wish I was told when I was a teenager so my mind wouldn’t probably be as stressed as it is now. Here is the list:
♥ Life is never as bad as you might think.
♥ When all doors are shut. Look for a window.
♥ If you are suffering any mental illnesses, SEEK HELP. Don’t suffocate yourself within your feelings
♥ There will always be someone better than you. That doesn’t mean you are not doing enough.
♥ Likewise, there will always be someone prettier than you. Another woman’s beauty is not the absence of your own.
♥ Seriously the earlier you accept yourself, the better it is.
♥ Fuck society.
♥ Be kind to your parents. Remember they are aging too. You will miss them one day.
♥ You can still not follow their decisions or disagree with their decisions without disrespecting them.
♥ Yes, you are an independent woman but it is not wrong to ask for help to your parents.
♥ You could have done better. You tried your best, but you know it wasn’t your best. Move on and work harder.
♥ If you are angry, don’t always be stubbornly quiet. Speak about it and try to resolve the problem in a civil way.
♥ Overcome your shyness. Work step by step and then push yourself outside your comfort zone.
♥ Being emotionally vulnerable isn’t a sign of weakness.
♥ It is never too late to improve yourself. Every day is a new beginning to be a better person than you were yesterday.
♥ Yes, you should achieve higher, stretch yourself but know your limits and accept them.
♥ Not every dream will be fulfilled.
♥ Sometimes it is better to let shit go.
♥ Never get involved with your friend’s personal relationships. Stay as objective as you can.
♥ Boys are seriously worthless at that age. (I can confirm it).
♥ You never need a relationship to feel complete. (Still single and perfectly normal)
♥ You don’t need to go out, take selfies every day to make your life extraordinary.
♥ Pictures are deceiving. No one post about their struggles on social media.
♥ Start learning new things or skills at young age.
♥ You can’t blame or thank God for everything you do.
♥ Go out with your friends. You are not going to study anyway.
♥ Cut all the toxic and negative people out of your life and if you are one of them start detoxifying.
♥ It’s okay to drift apart from people.
♥ Be tactful. (Learned the hard way.)
♥ If you don’t find your future husband in uni, find your bridesmaids at least.
♥ Wear sunscreen every day.
♥ Never ever stop being nice.
♥ Never stop being a bookworm.
♥ Watching cartoons/anime rather than conventional American shows doesn’t make you weird.
♥ Crying while watching a sad clip or video doesn’t make you weak.
♥ Most importantly try to be always happy.
These are some of the things I can think of right now. I am still fighting against some of the issues mentioned above. I know I made mistakes and I know will make some more in the future, but trust me I am trying my best. On the side note, IU’s Twenty-Three is an absolute jam and it perfectly represents my feelings.
